This position is located at Makoshika State Park in Glendive, MT. Makoshika is Montana's largest state park close to

11;500 acres in size. It protects 20% of Montana's badland formations. It host a wide variety of events and programs throughout the year including Makoshika Music and Arts Festival, Trivia Nights, Full Moon Hikes, Youth programs, archery events, and Buzzards Days. Glendive, Montana has the feel of a small town but the amenities of a larger town with the Yellowstone River running right through the middle.

Job Duties:

The front desk position is the face of FWP to the many visitors that come to Makoshika State Park. The job is very demanding and oftentimes fast-paced, with long hours of standing at the front counter, as well as answering unrelenting telephone calls and providing information to walk-in customers. To accomplish these tasks the incumbent must develop and maintain a wide accumulation of information concerning rules and policies of the department, campground reservations, events and programs happening in the park and hiking trails. They should be confident, self-assured, and flexible when presenting information to the public, doing so in a courteous and friendly manner. This will involve the ability to quickly move from one topic to another as needed and possess adequate communication skills, both verbal and written to handle the wide variety of different customers that come into the office, call locally cin the phone, call through the statewide call center and send emails and snail mail correspondence.

The ad min clerk also assists with park management, overseeing the volunteer program, permitting and monitoring commercial use, park planning, rules enforcement, and supporting the management of the paleontology lab and collection room. This work will primarily encompass broad administrative, operational, public relations, and light maintenance activities. This position provides essential services and tasks as they arise, such as cleaning, rule compliance, and other responsibilities assigned. The Administrative Clerk position will work under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Manager and will provide direction for volunteers and staff as assigned. In the absence of the manager, the incumbent may be assigned acting responsibilities.

The schedule is varied but usually Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm with an hour lunch break. The work environment is a heated and airconditioned office. Must be able to lift 30-40 pounds.

Ability to move 50 pounds over a distance.

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Ability to work in environmental extremes for long periods of time.

Ability to assist public independently, in extremely harsh terrain, and at night.

Willingness to travel long distances frequently.

Willingness to work odd hours, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma or equivalency and at least 1 year of job-related experience.   Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 1-year job-related college or vocational training in business or public administration, office management, park or natural resources management, accounting, tourism, marketing, communications, or other related degrees is preferred.
