Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with all aspects of patent prosecution, including drafting and filing patent applications, responding to office actions, and communicating with patent offices worldwide.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on domestic and international patent law, regulations, and case law to support client matters and strategic decision-making.
- Review and analyze patent portfolios, patent licenses, and other IP agreements to ensure compliance with legal requirements and client objectives.
- Assist in the negotiation, drafting, and review of patent licensing agreements, technology transfer agreements, and other IP-related contracts.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patent filings, prosecution activities, and IP-related correspondence using electronic databases and case management systems.
- Coordinate with external counsel, patent agents, and foreign associates to facilitate patent filings, prosecution, and maintenance activities globally.
- Assist with due diligence reviews and IP audits in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and licensing transactions.
- Prepare and coordinate filings with patent offices, including the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and foreign patent offices.
- Provide general administrative support to attorneys, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and preparing legal documents and correspondence.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working as a paralegal in a law firm or corporate legal department, with a focus on intellectual property (IP) law and patent prosecution.
- Strong understanding of patent law and procedures, including patent prosecution, licensing, and enforcement.
- Proficiency in legal research techniques and resources, including online databases, libraries, and case law repositories.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and legal software applications.
- Paralegal certification is preferred but not required.
