Johnson, Ayers & Matthews, P.L.C., an AV rated civil litigation law firm, has an immediate opening for a paralegal at its offices in downtown Roanoke. The firm handles a wide variety of cases including personal injury, product liability, real estate litigation, and construction. Candidate should be a highly motivated, proactive self-starter with excellent time management and interpersonal skills. Candidate must have a college degree and one to two years of paralegal experience, preferably with a background in document organization and medical record review. Principal Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review and examine records and documents for cases to ensure completeness and accuracy. If information is missing, initiate correspondence to seek information that will complete the case file
- Prepare subpoenas and authorizations for production of documents
- Perform comprehensive record reviews for relevancy and incorporate records into medical work files, medical chronologies, and medical bill summaries
- Maintain files which are organized chronologically, numerically and/or by subject matter, and ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents
- Communicate with clients, courts, witnesses, expert witnesses and other external parties
- Respond to document production requests
- As directed, locate statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, legal codes and law-related information
- Locate and retain expert witnesses
- Assist attorneys with preparation for depositions, mediations, and trials
- Record billable time with detailed narratives

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
