New employees will begin on Step A ($5,027.01), Step B ($5,278.36) with 18 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience or up to Step C ($5,542.28) with 36 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience. For purposes of salary placement, 7.5 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of directly related coursework from a regularly accredited institution will be equivalent to one (1) year of job experience. Step C is the maximum step placement for a new hire, and this is non-negotiable at this time. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA.
This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Excellent Benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than, or equal to, 50% (0.50 FTE) and all eligible dependents. A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment. Hours are Monday through Friday 6:30am-3:00pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

  • Basic computer and office skills.
  • Basic principles of work direction and guidance.
  • Blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Brush and spray painting.
  • Characteristics and uses of paints, varnishes, enamels, and shellacs, including mixing and blending.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Paint application and selection.
  • Paint mixing, tinting, and matching colors.
  • Proper methods of preparing various surfaces for painting and finishing.
  • Reading and writing communication skills.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • Safe work practices and operation of equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
  • Special chemicals used to remove graffiti off different surfaces throughout the District.
  • Standard safety regulations pertaining to safe work conditions as required by State OSHA.
  • Surface coverings, coatings, and sealers.
  • Shop safety and safety practices, including OSHA, APCD, and EPA requirements.
  • Tools, equipment, and materials used in painting.
  • Use and purpose of graffiti coating on various surfaces.
  • Use and handling of hazardous substances and purpose of requirements for hazardous waste and recycling.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Erect and work from ladders, rigging and scaffolding.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Make simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Mix, tint, and match paints and enamels.
  • Operate motor vehicles, power equipment and machinery, and hand tools used in area of specialty.
  • Plan and direct work of skilled painters.
  • Plan, lay out, and perform difficult painting work.
  • Provide work direction and guidance to others.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Use initiative with minimum supervision to solve difficult and complex problems.
  • Work independently in a widely dispersed and diversified district.
Foreign Degree: Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, INC.(ACEI). Tentative Timeline (Subject to Amendments) Conditions of Employment: SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT:

  • Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);
  • Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the District's expense (Clearance must be received prior to first day of employment);
  • Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States as required by the I9 Employment Eligibility Verification form; AND,
  • Attend a new hire processing appointment in People, Culture, and Technology Services located at the District Administrative Offices.


EMPLOYMENT AFTER RETIREMENT
