Position Summary:
Reports to: Global Sales Coordinator
The Global Sales Intern will directly support the Convention Sales and Services department with tools needed to sell and service meetings and conventions hosted in Washington, DC. You will gain dedicated experience in the international business events industry, develop project management skills, and acquire advanced knowledge about Washington, DC's destination appeal.
Your Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct web research
- Update sales collateral and website information
- Assist with Washington, DC familiarization (FAM) tours
- Database entry
- Attend team meetings
- Attend cross-departmental meetings
- Various projects based on professional interest
What You Bring: Qualifications: Experience, Competencies, Education:
- You must be a junior or senior year college student in good standing
- Preferred major in Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Marketing, or Business; or have completed relevant coursework
- Previous internship experience a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter with good organizational skills and ability prioritize tasks
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Eagerness to learn from a team of dynamic, engaged professionals working to promote Washington, DC and its vital hospitality and travel and tourism economy
- Demonstrated interest in the travel and tourism economy, enthusiasm for Washington, DC
Duration:
- Commitment of one semester is required. The internship may be extended to the next semester at the agreement of the student and supervisor.
- Interns must be able to commit at least 20 hours per week to the position.
- Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Friday, 8:45am-5pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.
- Must have access to reliable computer and internet as position is hybrid and may require remote work.
Work Environment
This Intern will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid, coming into the office at a minimum on the department's designated days (Monday & Tuesday). Intern may work from the office on other days, too. Intern must have reliable internet to work remotely.
