Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the pre-surgical and post-anesthesia care units for all patient populations.
This primary position at Nemours Children's Hospital, Surgery Center, Malvern, will include collaboration with Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware and the Nemours Children's Hospital, Surgery Center, Deptford to optimize available resources in achieving optimal patient outcomes. This position may require periodic rotation to these facilities. Travel is compensated based on organizational policy.
This position requires active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, and current Pennsylvania Clearances to include FBI Fingerprint Report, PA Criminal Background Record, & PA Child Abuse Clearance.
This position requires working shifts aligned with the needs of the department and the assigned FTE of the RN.
Schedule: 60 or 72 hours biweekly available, full-time
Responsibilities:
- Provides age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice.
- Assesses patient's pre-surgical status and compliance with pre-surgical criteria per organizational guidelines.
- Assesses patient's post-operative status at intervals according to organizational policies and procedures.
- Interprets information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.
- Demonstrates knowledge of underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
- Applies the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer accurately as defined by organizational policy.
- Develops and implements an individualized perianesthesia plan of care.
- Manages patient recovery from general, monitored, regional, and local anesthesia.
- Protects patients from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects
- Communicates patient status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care.
- Provides acute pain and comfort management as needed.
- Administers medications correctly by implementing the rights of safe medication practices.
- Performs interventions to maintain the integrity of surgical wounds and tissue perfusion, ensures normothermia, protects patients from infection, addresses co-morbid conditions, and monitors hydration.
- Assesses knowledge level of patient or designated support person in providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain and comfort management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
- Involves patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process
Qualifications:
- PA RN License
- Apply for DE RN License within 6 months from the date of hire.
- Apply for NJ RN licensure within 1 year from the date of hire.
Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) - DE, NJ, and MD Multistate RN License
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required
- American Heart Association (AHA) PALS required
- Schedule AHA ACLS within 6 months from the date
