Essential Functions
Transcription:
- Transcribes physician orders utilizing order communications and appropriate requisitions; this include both paper and electronic.
- Schedules patient testing for diagnostic and procedures as needed.
- Processes stat and urgent orders with an appropriate time frame
Unit Activities:
- Maintains a safe, clean, and functional unit and nurse’s station.
- Supports hospital policies for visitors, is aware of any alterations for specific patients, and encourages enforcement as needed.
- Directs patients, visitors, and health team members to the primary nurse or designee.
- Coordinates and prioritizes incoming information, and relays results to the appropriate individual(s).
Communications and Interpersonal Relations:
- Maintains a calm and efficient atmosphere within the unit.
- Works courteously and collaboratively with all members of the health team.
- Answers telephone in a professional manner and communicates messages in a timely manner.
- Receives and directs information accurately to appropriate personnel
- Answers phone by identifying nursing unit and self.
- Communicates effectively and courteously with patients, families, nursing and anesthesia staff, physicians, and other departments.
- Greets, directs and gives non-medical information to patients, visitors and personnel.
- Collaborates with other departments in a positive and productive manner
- Uses paging and intercom system appropriately.
- Understands when an emergency situation exists and responds accordingly.
- Reports or receives pertinent information to/from other shift secretary.
- Coordinates activities that require follow-up. Leaves accurate messages concerning activities that require completion (i.e., consults).
- Updates Electronic Communication Board of patient’s arrival and discharge in the PACU.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency with computers and medical terminology preferred
