POSITION: Outreach Coordinator, Legal Support Center
REPORTS TO: Director, Asylum Seeker Immigration Legal Project (ASILP); Director, Immigration Legal Program; Executive Director for Community Services
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time
STATUS: Salaried Non-Exempt
Salary Range $45,000 to $50,000
Position Summary: The Outreach Coordinator, ASILP will be responsible for conducting outreach to local community groups and recruiting and training community members who wish to volunteer to assist ASILP Support Center activities. They will serve as a first point of contact for all Center arrivals and assist with scheduling appointments for services.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Coordinator will serve as first point of contact for all clients arriving at the ASILP Support Center:
o Will provide basic information about services offered and assist in scheduling appointments for those who come to the Center.
o Coordinate relationships and internal referrals among nonprofit partners
o Coordinate appointments and outreach with the 311 Hotline
- Coordinator will conduct outreach to CBOs/churches/community members to recruit volunteers willing to donate time, energy, and resources to the Center:
o Create and conduct presentations to community groups/churches/law firms to inform them about the Center program;
o Cultivate relationships with these groups and organizations to create meaningful collaboration and volunteer opportunities.
- Coordinator will develop and implement trainings for volunteers to:
o provide information sessions and orientation workshops for the Center;
o assist with connecting migrants to referred services;
o interpretation or translation assistance.
- Coordinator will seek out and coordinate donations for the Center.
- Coordinator will recruit pro bono attorneys to participate in approximately 3 pro bono clinics throughout the year, where they will assist clients with preparing motions to change venue packages (including written pleadings, and service to ICE), work authorization applications, and other legal matters. The Coordinator will establish a training schedule for the Attorney to train these pro bono volunteers prior to each clinic.
- Coordinator will assist the Attorney and Navigators in maintaining client files, sorting and entering client mail, and contacting clients. Coordinator will assist in scheduling appointments for Navigators and Attorneys.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Licensure:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Experience working with immigrants or immigration issues highly preferred.
- Experience in public speaking and training preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with individuals from all walks of life.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively, multi-task, determine priorities, and work independently.
- Knowledge about immigration law/system is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Special Position Requirements
- Must be able to pass an FBI background check as well as a CA/N check for every state in which they have resided in the last five years.
