POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is a strategic INTELLIGENCE ANALYST for organized crime in the Office of Statewide Intelligence, reporting to the Florida Fusion Center's External Partners Unit.  The incumbent will be responsible for collecting, evaluating, analyzing, and producing intelligence on crime trends and threats to Florida through the application of extensive analytical research and interpretive skills, the use of numerous investigative, intelligence, and informational sources/data bases, and engagement with interagency fusion liaisons.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Research and collect information, intelligence reports, and investigative reports to identify trends, threats, vulnerabilities, tactics and techniques with potential impact to Florida;
  • Reviews, evaluates, and analyzes current investigative and intelligence data, current events, publications, and online postings related to criminals and criminal activity, crime trends, and the impact of specific crimes within the area;
  • Research of sophisticated or complex persons, organizations, businesses, and other entities involved in criminal activity to determine the structure and scope of criminal operations;
  • Prepares analytical briefs, assessments, and other products based on experience and analysis both independently and as part of a group;
  • Presents analytical findings via charts, graphics, written documents, and oral briefings. Generates hypotheses based on collected data and analytical and professional judgment. Identifies gaps in information and proposes recommendations;
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with and initiates and/or coordinates inter-agency contacts among FDLE entities and/or other law enforcement agencies in matters pertaining to the acquisition and research of public and law enforcement records, as well as the sharing of information and intelligence in support of the Florida Fusion Center's mission;
  • Attends and/or supports, upon request, various intelligence unit meetings in conjunction with other federal, state, and local law enforcement units; and
  • Attends and/or supports, upon request, various intelligence unit meetings in conjunction with other federal, state, and local law enforcement units.

 

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Experience in criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis, or in a law enforcement agency can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  3. Any combination of education or experience, as described above.
  4. Completion of a 720-hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in law enforcement can substitute for one year of the required education.

 Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of coursework from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group, maintaining effective working relationships with others;
  • Knowledge of the intelligence cycle;
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and summarize criminal intelligence;
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and basic arithmetic;
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats;
  • Ability to organize all work in progress allowing for retrieval on request, or retrieval by others in the event of the analyst's absence;
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple work assignments;
  • Ability to utilize problem solving techniques; and
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

 

BASE SALARY:

Crime Intelligence Analyst I

$19.24/hour - Bachelor's degree*

Crime Intelligence Analyst II         

$20.68/hour - Bachelor's degree* and one year of analytical** experience.

Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst I

$21.64/hour - Bachelor's degree* and three years of analytical** experience.

Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst II

$25.97/hour - Bachelor's degree* and five years of analytical** experience.

 

*A master's degree in criminology, law enforcement intelligence analysis, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis or comparable discipline; or a professional certificate in one of these disciplines can substitute for one year of experience.

 

**Analytical experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year- for-year basis. Analytical experience must be in the fields of: criminal intelligence, military intelligence, crime analysis or investigative experience in a law enforcement agency.

 

SPECIAL NOTES:

  • Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating strong skills in critical thinking; analytical research and interpretation; developing and delivering presentations and training to internal FDLE members, as well as, other law enforcement agencies throughout Florida.  Applicants should possess excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • As a member of a law enforcement agency, during any critical incident or disaster (both natural and man-made), these positions may be designated as an essential service position for a given period. During this time, you may be required to work after normal business hours, during office closures, or during weekends and/or holidays when needed.
  • This Crime Intelligence Analyst position is included in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Intelligence Analyst Progression Plan. The plan provides professional development training and advancement opportunities to enhance FDLE's investigative strategy and promote development within the crime analysis field.

OUR SALARY & OPS BENEFITS:

Starting salary will be the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. FDLE is a State of Florida Employer and offers a comprehensive OPS benefits package (ONLY available to OPS members who will be working 30 or more hours a week), including:

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. Salary for these positions will be commensurate with experience and training but are typically filled at the minimum of the class pay range unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy guidelines.Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
