Your Specific Responsibilities:


+ Conducts field investigations in accordance with current STD program policy to locate and refer clients for counseling, medical evaluation, and/or treatment of STDs and HIV. This includes patients who test positive for these infections and patients who might have been exposed to and/or suspected to be at risk of infection for HIV or STDs. This position will follow all FDOH policies to notify individuals of their need for testing and/or treatment. Maintaining client confidentially is essential.


+ Collaborates with providers throughout Sarasota County to ensure that specific positive lab results are reported to DOH-Sarasota properly and update providers on the treatment guidelines relating to STDs and HIV.


+ Assists with maternal and congenital STD/HIV case investigations. This includes following up with providers and infection control practitioners at local hospitals that care for pregnant women to ensure proper treatment and follow up is conducted.


+ Educates clients and community members about STDs and HIV. This may include large scale community presentations and attending health fairs.


+ Assists with the walk in Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and HIV/AIDS walk in testing Program (SHIP) program on a weekly basis. This includes obtaining bloods sample, finger sticks, and urine samples to test for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and HIV and properly ordering, packaging, and shipping samples to the State Lab for processing.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


+ Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written formats


+ Ability to collect and compile data


+ Ability to use a personal computer


+ Ability to analyze problems and develop appropriate course of action


+ Ability to organize, prioritize and work within policies and procedures


+ Ability to maintain confidentiality


Qualifications:


Preferred –


+ Experience working in a public health or medical/healthcare setting


+ Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field


+ Phlebotomy experience


+ Florida Department of Health HIV Tester and Counselor Training (HIV 500/501 courses)


+ SureCheck Rapid testing certification through the Florida Department of Health


+ Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs


+ Centers for Disease Control Passport to Partner Services certified or Introduction to Disease Investigation course
