Position Summary:
“Learn while you Earn.” The OSU Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is looking to train motivated, ethical, career-seeking, caring, bright people in a newly established 12-week Ophthalmic Assistant Training Program. We are offering part-time paid training to prepare you for a dynamic career in this exciting field of Ophthalmology. At the end of the academic and skill-based training period, you should have the basic skills and knowledge needed to successfully start your career as an Ophthalmic Assistant and be well on your way to obtaining certification through The Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO). JCAHPO is a non-profit organization that offers education and certification for eye care excellence: www.jcahpo.org.
The OSU Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is part of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. In 2009, the five-story Eye and Ear Institute, at the Gowdy site, opened with eye clinics on the 5th floor and an outpatient surgery center on the 1st floor with 4 eye operating rooms. Additional clinical services include genetic counseling, ophthalmic photography and imaging, and diagnostic electrophysiology testing. In addition, satellite clinic offices are in Dublin Post Rd, Westerville, New Albany, and Dublin.
This program will take place primarily at the Westerville location: 484 County Line Rd West Suite 240, Westerville OH 43082. Travel to another location(s) during the last 4 weeks of the program may be required for clinical rotations among the various ophthalmology and optometric subspecialties.

No experience in the medical field required!
Application Requirements:A short (500 words or less) essay on “Why I am interested in going through this program to become an Ophthalmic Assistant” should be submitted along with your resume.
Pay: Earn $10.73 per hour/20 hours a week while learning and training to become an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician. Students responsible for course book and uniform (black scrubs).
Work schedule: Monday/Tuesday 8am-4:30pm and Wednesday 8am-12pm. Program begins 6/10/24 and runs through 7/24/24.
