This position is part time, non-exempt, classified and is covered as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.
Under the direction of the HHW Coordinator, the Operations Technician assists with operations of the Household Waste Program and facilities of the Allen County Department of Environmental Management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Collects batteries and light bulbs twice a month at servicing partnership locations and provides and changes out supplies.
• Assists with weekly household hazardous drop-off program, Tox-Away Tuesday, by removing materials from vehicles, weighing products, segregating materials by chemical composition and other related duties as required.
• Assists with other programs of the Allen County Department of Environmental Management including, but not limited to, Non-Profit program, Recycling Trailers, Propane Tanks, Fire Extinguishers and other projects as required.
• Loads and unloads semis, collecting materials and unloading supplies as they arrive.
• Maintains supplies at the HHW facility including pallets and Gaylord containers and handle various types of batteries to sort, separate and prepare for shipping.
• Set up and tear down collection events, including packaging and labeling drums/pallets per DOT guidelines.
• Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.

Minimum Requirements and Working Conditions
REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or GED
• HAZMAT awareness and/or HAZMAT Operations level training required
• OSHA 24-hour hazardous materials certification (HAZWOPR) preferred
• One or more years of hazardous waste experience preferred
• One or more years or manual labor experience required
• Working knowledge of equipment operation and the ability to operate assigned tools and equipment
• Ability to properly maintain assigned equipment and vehicles
• Ability to successfully complete required training on Bobcat; knowledge of proper use and operation of Bobcat, tractor and other equipment and vehicles with the ability to apply appropriate procedures to assigned projects and duties accordingly
• Experience operating a Bobcat or forklift preferred
• Ability to stand for up to 2 hours at a time
• Strong communications skills
• Knowledge of safe operation practices
• Good communication skills
• Basic computer skills and experience using telephone and copier
• Valid Indiana Driver's License to operate County vehicles, box truck with lift gate and trailers

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Part-Time Operations Technician works in a variety of weather conditions requiring exposure to temperature extremes, dangerous equipment, noise and noxious odors/fumes. Frequent bending, pushing/pulling loads, reaching overhead and frequent lifting up to 75 lbs. Attention to detail, monitoring equipment and detailed inspection are required
