The Store Protection and Safety Specialist (SPSS) will support the America's Thrift Store's (ATS) Assets Protection Mission of Protecting: 1) Life Safety, 2) Property, 3) Profitability, and 4) Reputation Management.  The SPSS will accomplish this by performing duties to ensure that our employees, customers, donors and facilities are safe and secure. These duties include being a visible security presence to mitigate and prevent security incidents, respond to on-site crisis situations, identify and correct safety hazards, and conduct preliminary on-site investigations in partnership with the Associate and Lead Loss Prevention Investigators.  The SPSS reports directly to the Lead Loss Prevention Investigator.

 

Primary Job Duties

• Perform physical security audits (door locks, alarm systems, etc)
• Act as a visible security presence at the point of entry/exit
• Engage with employees, customers, and donors as they arrive/depart from site
• Support external theft mitigation by providing a visible impression of control at the facility entrance/exit
• Conduct employee bag checks
• Perform CCTV review and maintenance as necessary
• Gather appropriate evidence in relation to theft and fraud cases as directed by direct supervisor
• Accurate and timely completion/retention of incident documentation per ATS Asset Protection Standard Operating Procedure parameters
• Audit facility for safety hazards, including unsafe working behaviors; work with management and Safety Compliance Officer to correct identified hazards
• Respond, as directed by direct supervisor, to all crisis scenarios, and provide direction to store leadership for crisis response.
• Additional duties as directed by Assets Protection/Loss Prevention leadership

 

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• At least 18 years of age or older
• Customer service attitude towards employees, customers, and donors
• Experience operating CCTV systems and incident reporting systems
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Experience in verbal de-escalation techniques
• Retail Assets Protection/Loss Prevention or Uniformed Security experience preferred
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Must successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Prolonged periods of standing at front entrance/exit
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Physical Demands:

• Occasionally - Carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 14-foot height, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, handling, and smelling.
• Frequently - Walking on tile/concrete, bending, feeling, and reaching waist/overhead level.
• Continuously - Standing on tile/concrete, fingering, talking, seeing, and hearing.

 

Other:

• Must be able to work flexible work schedule (evenings, weekends and holidays)
• Working environment involves facility interior with controlled temperatures and outside conditions with varying weather and temperatures
