Northwestern Pritzker School of Law Bluhm Legal Clinic, LGBTQIA+ Rights Clinic Open-Rank Clinical Professor of Law and Director, LGBTQIA+ Rights Clinic Northwestern Pritzker School of Law invites applications for a full-time clinical faculty member who will serve as faculty director of a new LGBTQIA+ Rights Clinic within the Bluhm Legal Clinic. The expected start date is July 1, 2024. The faculty appointment may be a Clinical Professor of Law, Associate Clinical Professor of Law, or Assistant Clinical Professor of Law, at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The LGBTQIA+ Rights Clinic is a new initiative at the Bluhm Legal Clinic. The Director will develop the docket and set the direction of the new Clinic. The Director will also supervise students in the Clinic who will work on the Clinic's cases and projects.

Role & Responsibilities The Director will set the vision for the LGBTQIA+ Rights Clinic. Setting the vision includes but is not limited to the following tasks: Determining what kinds of advocacy the Clinic will do on behalf of LGBTQIA+ clients and causes; Building a docket of cases and projects; Supervising students in their case work; Teaching a weekly class on LGBTQIA+ Law and litigation skills related to the work of the Clinic; Teaching about bias and cross-cultural competency in the context of LGBTQ+ advocacy; Supervising any fellows or staff attorneys in the LGBTQIA+ Rights Clinic; Identifying opportunities for collaboration with other clinics in the Bluhm Legal Clinic; Identifying opportunities for collaboration within the Law School including, but not limited to, with student led organizations, law school sponsored projects and initiatives related to LGBTQIA+ advocacy, support of LGBTQIA+ students; Identifying opportunities for collaboration with lawyers in other organizations advocating for LGBTQIA+ clients and projects; According to the Director's vision, leading initiatives that offer students meaningful, practice-oriented learning experiences; Participating in Bluhm Legal Clinic and Law School meetings, events, and committee work; Traveling as required for court appearances, depositions, meetings with clients and, when appropriate, donors; Promoting the work of the Clinic to the Law School and to the community. Required Experience and Qualifications: J.D.

degree from an ABA-accredited law school; At least five years of litigation experience; Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills; Experience advocating for LGBTQIA+ clients and rights as a lawyer; Ability to collaborate, a commitment to creating a working environment that is inclusive, equitable and welcoming, and a willingness to honor the diverse experiences and perspectives of Bluhm staff, students, and clients; Desire to engage in client-centered advocacy, and a willingness to use the law creatively and strategically to seek justice for LGBTQIA+ clients; Admission to the Illinois Bar. LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois COMPENSATION: The salary is competitive and includes an excellent benefits package through Northwestern University. Salary will be commensurate with experience and based on years out of Law school.
