The University of Illinois Chicago's Department ofChemistry invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor of Chemistry whowill also serve as Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies to oversee thecurriculum and instructor training for gateway and introductory Chemistrycourses starting August 2024. The primary duties of this position include leadingreform efforts to adopt evidence-based best practices in gateway chemistrycourses, coordinating the team of introductory chemistry instructors, andteaching introductory chemistry courses. The ideal candidate should be firmlycommitted to enhancing excellence in teaching gateway chemistry courses,actively participate in university and department's continuous initiatives toimprove undergraduate outcomes in STEM education, and promote equity and inclusiveteaching strategies in the chemistry program. It is essential that thecandidate possesses knowledge of education research findings related toinstructing and supporting the success of a highly diverse and first-generationundergraduate student population and is motivated to actively apply thesefindings to curricular design and teaching practices.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
PhD in Chemistry, Chemistry Education, or a related field.
Training in Chemistry Education Research or related education research through graduate or postdoctoral training.
Experience in designing and adopting evidence-based best teaching practices.
Additional Desired Qualifications
Experience teaching chemistry as the instructor of record in college settings.
Experience teaching introductory-level chemistry courses in a large lecture format.
Experience collaborating in large instructional teams and mentoring graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants.
Experience engaging students in active learning practices.
Experience implementing innovative undergraduate learning experiences, such as low-stakes/formative assessments, the development of teaching laboratory experiments, innovative course modules (including online), or lesson materials that integrate inclusive teaching strategies and a growth mindset.
Experience designing initiatives and course strategies to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching and research.
