The Sr.Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing weekly payrolls for Support Center and store employees, along with maintaining timesheet accuracy. This role serves as a backup to the Payroll Manager for Bi-Weekly, bonus, and commission payroll processes, along with assisting with reporting needs when necessary.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serves as a department lead working closely with Payroll Manager and creates efficiencies in processes where needed.
- Processes bi-weekly payrolls for Support Center accurately and timely and reconciles payroll prior to transmission.
- Ensures accurate import of bi-weekly payroll hours.
- Monitors and updates, when needed, bi-weekly employee information in payroll and timekeeping systems.
- Responds and enters information in a timely manner to internal employee and external related requests regarding garnishments, rehire eligibility, verifications of employment, paycheck inquiries, PTO, etc.
- Executes payroll processes and reviews activities with Payroll Manager to determine priorities, set expectations, and ensures accurate reporting.
- Documents payroll processes and procedures. Updates internal documents to ensure all processes are aligned and current. Provides analysis for complex payroll projects, defect resolution such as verifying tax compliance, resolving payroll issues, and various State and Federal regulations. Other complex matters include addition to specialty payments, taxation and benefits. Requires in depth analysis of payroll files, interface error logs, and monitoring audit reports during the processing cycle.
- Runs daily and weekly reports for management.
- Assists with reporting needs when necessary.
- Back up responsibility to the Payroll Specialist for weekly payroll and payments for commissions and quarterly bonuses.
- Applies payroll concepts to perform complex analysis regarding pay processing adjustments, including retroactive pay, tax withholding, deductions, garnishments and overpayment.
- Provides training to management staff and team members on payroll policies and procedures such as preparation of payroll, including time and attendance, paid time off and sick leave accrual, labor distribution records, deductions, garnishments, overtime and withholding status.
- Engages in cross-collaboration and teamwork with work groups across Tri Star Energy.
- Supports all Payroll activities, acts as subject matter expert, and responds timely to escalated issues, questions, trends.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 4+ years of progressively-responsible corporate Payroll experience
- Prior experience and proficiency with a web-based HRIS or Payroll system
- Or any equivalent combination of education and experience in job-related activities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Paylocity
- Experience in a C-Store, manufacturing, retail, and/or hospitality environments
- Intermediate to Advanced level MS Excel skills
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
