Job description

The Child Welfare Learning and Evaluation Bureau is recruiting for an Office Technician (T) in the Children and Family Services Division. As a member of the Bureau the work you do as an OT will help serve aid and protect the needy and vulnerable children and families of California. Duties of the OT will include answering phone calls from the public, creating and editing official Department correspondence, act as bureau attendance coordinator, process updates for the department web pages, and other duties as required.

Under the direct supervision of the Staff Services Manager III, the OT will provide a variety of clerical services to support the Child Welfare Learning and Evaluation Bureau and the Children’s Services Operations Bureau such as ordering and maintaining office supplies and equipment, coordinating and scheduling meetings using a variety of software programs, booking travel reservations on behalf of the Bureau Chief and process travel reimbursements, providing accessibility support to Bureau staff by converting and ensuring documents are in an accessible formatting and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and act as the Personnel liaison for Bureau staff regarding leave, personnel matters and benefits. The Bureau is a team centered environment that supports the learning and development of staff to encourage upward mobility.

Telework / Remote Work Information: This position has been designated as eligible for telework. The position may require in-person attendance when requested. Advance in-person notice will be provided when possible. The employee would report to CDSS headquarters (744 P Street) in Sacramento if/when required to attend mandated in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Expenses related to travel to the office for required events are the responsibility of the employee. If telework/remote work ends, the position will have to report to CDSS headquarters in Sacramento.

Working Conditions

This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer’s markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.

The Child Welfare Learning and Evaluation Bureau also assists county agencies through support for continuous quality improvement data and program development.

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are temporary in nature and shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.
