Job description

The Employment Development Department's (EDD) Investigation Division (ID) within the Policy, Accountability and Compliance Branch investigates allegations and suspected violations of the California Unemployment Insurance Code and other laws and regulations pertaining to fraud or misconduct to protect the integrity of EDD's programs and resources.

Located in the ID's Norwalk Office, the Office Technician (OT), under the direction of the Southern Enforcement Operations unit, Supervising Criminal Investigator II in the ID, assists in activities to support the ID and its employees. The duties and responsibilities require clerical skills, proficiency in the use of computer skills, knowledge of Department policies and procedures, initiative, good judgment, confidentiality, ability to format correspondence; spell correctly, proofread, independently correct errors, proper use of grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

The OT learns and applies the ID practices, serves as the office's Single Point of Contact and greets and directs office visitors, maintains visitor's logs; assists in coordinating maintenance for the office; assists in completing scheduled purging of closed investigation cases per Division's guidelines; observes and certifies monthly confidential paper destruction; collects, distributes and processes incoming and outgoing mail; files sensitive and confidential documents; gathers supply requests for two offices in Southern California, processes paperwork and resolves supply order problems. Responsible for copier, postage meter, fax machine, and related reports and maintenance. Tracks incoming court ordered restitution checks, maintains Restitution Check Spreadsheet and forwards monthly to supervisor. Looks up claim information, prints and copies documents as needed by investigators on special projects as assigned. Conducts monthly visual inspection of fire extinguishers in office. Supports the investigative staff assigned to the Southern California area, and independently performs a variety of clerical duties, and other duties as assigned.

Background Investigation Requirement
