JOB SUMMARY:
Provides administrative and clerical support for the department. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
- Responds to a high volume of telephone calls by taking messages, answering questions, and directs calls appropriately.
- Processes permits for all permitting programs within Environmental Health.
- Responsible for receiving, reviewing, and processing applications for various units within Environmental Health; Scheduling daily inspections and plan reviews for the on-site septic facility (OSSF) program; Responsible for maintenance files on OSSF inspections.
- Distributes mail within department.
- Assists other support staff with excessive workload.
- Process payments for all revenue activities within Environmental Health.
- Participates in the cross training efforts across all units.
- Answers inquiries from the public or other departments.
- Inputs and retrieves data using various computer systems/programs. Must be knowledgeable with computer folder structure and the ability organize them efficiently.
- Files and distributes documents and reports as necessary.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 2 years general work experience.
- Good computer and typing skills.
- 10-key by touch.
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, elected officials and outside agencies.
- Ability to learn and comprehend established office routines and polices from oral and written instructions; inclusive of financial-mathematical tasks, understanding of ethics-confidential issues.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.
SALARY RANGE: $17.60 - $22.00 hourly based on qualifications
