Hourly rate: $15.08 - $19.51

SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the food preparation and kitchen operations. Provide translation services to the Nutrition Services Department so a positive impact can be made on the students and their families.
  • Ability to travel daily between the Nutrition Services office and school sites
  • Receive incoming calls and correspondence
  • Translate documents as needed from English to Spanish
  • Act as a translator for the Nutrition Services Department, as needed
  • Works and collaborates with agencies and organizations in the community to assist with parent needs
  • Provide communication with non-English speaking families.
  • Maintain a well-organized, up-to-date filing system
  • Operate equipment, such as computers, copiers, intercom systems, calculators, laminators, telephone systems, and scanners
  • Handle student information and records in a responsible and confidential manner
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise
  • Operate all kitchen equipment in a safe and correct manner
  • Ensure that all activities conform to District, State Dept of Ed., and USDA standards
  • Respond to menu changes effectively and completes tasks as assigned
  • Attend meetings and workshops assigned by the Nutrition Services Director
  • Prepare food items to be served in given quantities and at a stated time
  • Read and follow recipes and production records
  • Clean and sanitize equipment properly
  • Follow standardized recipes carefully, weights and measures food ingredients accurately
  • Maintain clean work area and follows proper food handling to maintain food quality and ensure food safety
  • Serve meals to adults and students through serving line during service hours following the USDA regulations
  • Ensure students have been served all the essential meal components of a reimbursable school lunch or breakfast
  • Follow proper food handling to maintain food quality and ensure food safety
  • Maintain District's Charge Policy, including proper notices to families
  • Responsible for charging the correct price for food and/or meals; making accurate change, and depositing all monies collected daily as assigned
  • Complete daily USDA required paperwork including but not limited as assigned:
    1. Meal Count and FS4 Forms for all programs, and program documentation
    2. NIS student lists
    3. Daily Deposit Record and Ticket
    4. Cash Transaction Log with Receipts
    5. Refund/Transfer Requests
  • Responsible keeping an accurate roster of students participating in the lunch program
  • Operate point of sale terminal
  • Support the philosophy and mission of the Nampa School District and the Child Nutrition Department
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
  • Nutrition Services experience, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of food service operations.
  • Strong bilingual skills (Spanish/English) required
  • SNA Certification Level 1 or willing to obtain it
  • USDA Required Professional Standards, minimum of 6 hours of continuing education/training yearly or willing to obtain.
  • Strong public relations, interpersonal, and communication.
  • Ability to work with fellow employees, district staff, and vendors providing a quality level of customer service.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate to the technology user what the essential operating needs are for the devices they use. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations and legal documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand and walk; reach with hands and arms; the ability to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus; and the ability to communicate through speech. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects up to 40 lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works inside in a noisy environment and on occasion in and around fumes and odors.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 203 workdays
Starting third week of July and ending first Friday of June.
