JOB SUMMARY:

The FTS Nurse directly supports the medical needs of FTS clients (adults and children) in the residential and therapeutic living programs. Responsibilities include providing the coordination of clinical nursing services and health education as well as assuring compliance with state law and licensing requirements and CARF accreditation requirements. Other responsibilities include communication and coordination with referral sources and other outside agencies regarding health and medical needs of FTS clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess current R.N. license. Must have knowledge and experience regarding client care issues related to alcohol and drug abuse including, withdrawal, denial, knowledge of community referral resources and basics of psychiatric and medical nursing. Direct experience in OB/GYN, pediatrics and family medicine nursing preferred. Need effective communication and organization skills. Prefer State certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) and/or national nursing specific substance abuse certification. Must have valid driver’s license in addition to current CPR and First Aid Certification

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensures that clients meet all health requirements for admission and orientation into SAFTS, including:
• Coordination with the admissions department to review physical exams and TB clearances upon admission and provide TB clearance for clients unable to obtain a TB clearance prior to admission.
• Check in all medications for new admissions to ensure accurate transcription onto MARS.
• Complete a Confidential Risk Assessment with new admissions.
• Coordinate with SAFTS Dietician regarding any special diet needs for residential clients.
• Coordinates with physicians and other health care providers to ensure that residential clients are receiving the medical attention that they require, including well baby checks and immunizations for infants/toddlers.
• Facilitation of health education classes for residential clients.
• Provides clinic hours for residential clients so that they can check in with questions and to help with individualized health education or linkage assistance to other health care providers.
• Maintains documentation of medical/psychiatric services provided to a residential client in the client’s medical record, including coordination of transcription for doctor’s orders both on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and on physician order forms (effective March 6th, 2023 just for the WW Residential Program).
• Attends residential treatment team meetings to ensure that medical needs of clients are being communicated to the team regarding health conditions of clients that may impact their treatment progress.
• Provides staff development on medical related topics and includes medical orientation for all new hires and annual training on drug testing and medication administration procedures (for staff who have these duties listed in their job description), topics could include: Infection Diseases and Overdose Prevention.
• Crisis intervention and/or emergency care as needed during work hours. Off work hour emergencies (health or illness) will be referred to Emergency and clients with general health questions or concerns during off work hours will be referred to the Nurse Line or Physicians Exchange.
• Coordinates with outside providers including programs such as:
• Kapiolani Hospital WIC program and Sweeter Choice
• Diagnostic Laboratory Services
• Physicians and health clinics, such as Waikiki Health Center
• PharMerica
• Maintains an inventory of medical/first aid supplies, drug screening supplies, bio-waste disposal supplies and other needed supplies and refills any orders received by departments for these items.
• Maintains work area in a neat, orderly and sanitary manner.
• Promptly follows specified agency procedures required for the appropriate handling of all Emergency Response Codes
