We are seeking a Nuclear Research Scientist.

- Hold active/current DOD Secret clearance
Individual can be based in Colorado Springs, CO; Albuquerque, NM; Omaha, NE; or the National Capitol Region as long as they are within a commutable distance from site. May be willing to allow Tele Work as long as candidate is willing to work on site as needed.
Initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of technology research projects. Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products. Plans and executes applied research. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences. May participate in development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
You will be joining a team that develops state-of-the-art software used by warfighters and analysts, that models harsh atmospheric environments caused by nuclear warfare. This includes the effects of these environments on personnel and equipment. Our users expect best of breed products that are accurate and relevant to their mission success.
What you will do...
In this position, you will team up with our Physicists, Engineers, and Software Developers to develop and update comprehensive technical modeling software. Our development activities are performed within a configuration managed agile environment. Your engineering activities will include:
- modeling ground shock, prompt and delayed radiation, thermal, and/or airblast nuclear environments
- design, execution, and analysis of computational models and simulations
- model verification and validation
- nuclear weapons effects and survivability
- computational fluid dynamics
- programming in Python, C++, and/or Fortran
- using high-performance computational codes
- developing technical documentation and presentations
The person in this position will closely collaborate with subject matter experts to design and implement scientific and engineering concepts into effective software solutions. You will be responsible for organizing and performing your work tasks. You will contribute to regular technical progress meetings with our customer and stakeholder community.
Qualifications- BS 8-10, MS 6-8, PhD 3-5
- Experience developing Scientific-Engineering based modeling software.
- Knowledge of basic physics concepts
- Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio programming in C++ and/or C#; Python
- Prior experience working within an DoD/DoE/Government-related software development environment
