The nuclear medicine/PET technologist provides valuable information regarding both structure and function with every major organ/tissue within the body through the administration of radioactive chemical compounds, known as radiopharmaceuticals. Receives direction operationally from the Imaging Manager and or Radiologist.  Supports the overall vision of C-I-CARE and patient experience by achieving a positive balance of healthcare, cost outcomes, and patient satisfaction.  Facilitates excellent customer satisfaction while achieving department specific financial goals. Provides direct face to face patient care.  Injects/administers radiopharmaceuticals and acquires nuclear/pet images for diagnostic interpretation.  Ensures that all care meets individualized goals of the treatment plan. Requires independent judgment to identify, initiate, and assess action for known and potential problems.  Ensures standards of care are implemented and in compliance with all State and Federal regulations, RAM licensure, ACR standards, and UHG and SMA policies and procedures.  Monitors and maintains all equipment.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals
  • Performs patient imaging procedures using radiation detecting instrumentation
  • Initiates, maintains, and discontinues IV access
  • Oversees the administering of contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals
  • Responsible for compliance in assigned oversight areas within imaging. Modality to be in compliance of state/federal   radiation control/safety /Accrediting guidelines with training, protocols/procedures and competency
  • Participates/ initiates staff meeting as appropriate and ensures huddles completed, customer service and communication is conducted at imaging sites/modality and communicated as appropriate to appropriate persons/departments
  • Prepares images, data analysis, and patient information to the Radiologist for diagnostic interpretation
  • Performs and monitors daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual QC under the guidelines of the NRS
  • Calculates, measures, and records radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed in compliance with the Nevada Radioactive Materials License RAM and the American College of Radiology (ACR)
  • Assists the Radiation Safety Officer with monitoring and posting monthly radiation exposure rates for the staff
  • Educates and ensures all staff within the Imaging department is compliant with As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles
  • Maintains stock supplies and assists administrators in determining quantities for purchase, performs general office duties such as recording procedure codes for billing purposes, typing forms, and scheduling patients

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and/or equivalent 
  • Graduated from an accredited nuclear medicine school with current certification/registration in nuclear medicine
  • Graduated from an accredited Imaging Technologist program
  • Applicable state licenses 
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) or the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Valid BLS 
  • Proficient in all rules, regulations, and requirements within both the Nevada Radioactive Materials License and American College of Radiology (ACR)
  • 3 years clinical experience in an acute care setting with a demonstrated proficiency in Oncology Imaging
  • 1 years of PET experience 
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Imaging guidelines to specialties
  • Knowledge of ACR preferred. Skilled professional with a solid foundation in Nuclear Medicine
  • Ability to utilize radiology computerized management system, PACS, Electronic Health Record, and all other applicable facility computerized systems
  • Ability to perform imaging exam as applicable to license/accreditation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree
  • Current certification in PET
  • Excellent communication, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good organization, prioritization, auditing and time management skills\

Considerations:
Aware of high volume of patients, occasional lifting of supply and patients as necessary. Exposure to radiation is possible, and risk of exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. Must be able to drive to all SMA locations with reliable transportation required. On call rotation will be necessary to include holidays.

Nevada Residents Only: The hourly range for Nevada residents is $28.85 to $51.30.
