Description
The School of Health Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Instructor/Assistant Lecturer position within the Dental Hygiene program, beginning August 16, 2024. This is a variable-time, term, nine-month, non-tenure track position.
Examples of Duties
- Provide direct classroom/laboratory/clinical instruction and office hours as assigned.
- Teach various didactic courses as well as provide clinical and laboratory instruction and evaluation in the Dental Hygiene program.
- Participate in other program responsibilities associated with accreditation standards such as course and program development, evaluation, assessment, and quality assurance.
- Participate in professional practice, seminars, or workshops necessary to maintain up-to-date skills in the Dental Hygiene program.
- Some travel may be expected based on workload assignment.
- Engage in other duties as determined by the Director of the School of Health Sciences and/or the Dental Hygiene Program Director.
- Provide service to the program and School.
- Perform duties to assist in opening and closing clinic and lab areas.
Qualifications
- Earned Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene or a related field by start date of the position. For individuals holding a bachelor’s degree, the appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Instructor. Must earn a Master’s degree within two years of date of hire to be eligible for continued appointment.
- Licensed in Illinois as a Dental Hygienist, or be eligible for license by August 16, 2024.
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ work experience as a dental hygienist with certification in local anesthesia.
