JOB SUMMARY: This position requires the candidate to monitor patients for the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit through constant visual observation, documenting patient activities throughout the study, annotate on the EEG studies every 2 hours, maintain camera placement, communicate patient activities to physicians, nurses, and EEG Technologists.
The candidate will be responsible for learning to recognize seizure activity to be able to alert staff of patient needs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support required.
- One-year experience in health care setting preferred.
- Experience using computers required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure patient is on camera.
- Document relevant information on computer and chart.
- Use Medical Records system to verify patient history and information.
- Communicate often with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff about patient activities.
- Maintain focus on patient movements and activities.
- Recognize seizure activity to alert staff and activate patient event alarm.
- Recognize, troubleshoot, and alert staff to computer issues.
- Document equipment and recording issues.
- Communicate with patients and families.
- Ensure patient safety protocols are being followed.
- Sign out to next shift by communicating any issues and concerns along with updated documentation.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills and comfort with technology.
- Ability to self-motivate and stay focused on task.
