Job description

The Secretary of State's Office, Elections Division is seeking a qualified applicant to work as an Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA). The Agency will consider the Staff Services Analyst (SSA) classification for purposes of recruitment. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of professionals who work closely with 58 county elections officials, other state departments to support systemic efforts through the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). This is an excellent nonpartisan opportunity to be involved in the election process!
The position will serve as the New Motor Voter Task Force (NMVT) coordinator, and will gather, maintain, and analyze data for an annual report to the Legislature on the effectiveness of the California New Motor Voter Program. This position will serve as the Elections liaison to the Secretary of State's New Motor Voter Task Force, prepare meeting agendas and minutes, follow-up on action items and report to the NMVT on the status of issues and projects. This position will serve as the Elections subject matter expert for the New Motor Voter Program. Work directly in collaboration with Elections Division Voter Engagement team to ensure that National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) data and reporting is effectively and compliant. Coordinate with county elections officials, voter registration agencies, and other stakeholders to implement strategies for NVRA compliance. Research, analyze, and recommend strategies for addressing questions raised by stakeholders on NVRA implementation and/or compliance issues. Coordinate and support election related projects, reports, and tasks as needed. Compile and analyze data to draft reports related to voter education and engagement efforts conducted by the SOS. Plan, develop, coordinate, and conduct trainings to increase voter education and support election related initiatives.

  • Ability to appropriately apply current laws, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to work independently with excellent follow-through on tasks and assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities for project completion and effective organizational skills to ensure completed staff work on a variety of assignments
  • Aptitude for working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including strong English grammar, spelling and proofing
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn software programs or applications
  • Ability to conduct data analysis for research and reporting
  • Interest in electoral processes is helpful, but not required
