The Norwalk Hospital Emergency Department Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive blended (classroom and clinical) education program developed based on the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) online orientation modules. This program combines a standardized evidence-based online curriculum and textbook readings with hands-on skills labs and a clinical practicum led by the Emergency Department Clinical Nurse Educator.
Program Purpose:
To provide New Graduate registered nurses (defined as less an RN with less than 12 months experience in a non-acute care setting) who have no previous experience in emergency nursing with the basic knowledge and clinical skills necessary to function independently in an entry-level emergency department nursing position.
Overview and Timeline: April 2024
This blended program combines a standardized, evidence-based online curriculum with textbook readings, hands-on skills labs and a clinical practicum. The clinical practicum consists of eight weeks of didactic training followed by, a minimum, of 12 weeks of clinical experience. In order to successfully complete the program, candidates must receive a passing grade on all ENA module exams. Upon successful completion of program modules, candidates will move forward to the 12 weeks of clinical specialty training (orientation).
Candidate Requirements:
· Must have a current CT RN License upon start date (job offer is contingent on passing NCLEX and having a CT RN license
· A graduate of or enrolled in a BSN program by start date
· Must have current BLS
· Will be required to obtain PALS and ACLS certification within 6 months of hire, and TNCC within 12 months of hire
