General Function
The IT Operations Manager is responsible for managing and supervising the daily activities of the information technology (IT) department. Primarily, ensuring all systems, services, and infrastructure work securely and efficiently. The IT Operations Manager leads and works with teams to develop and implement networks and servers, respond to user help desk requests, and monitor systems for stability and performance.
Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)

  • Provide guidance and leadership to the IT department and its team.
  • Support end users by timely handling escalations, resolving issues, and monitoring the performance of business-critical systems to prevent and quickly resolve delays and outages.
  • Monitors and maintains core software applications, including Office 365, SCADA systems, Azure cloud management, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Responsible for overall management and maintenance of network devices for corporate WAN/LAN/Internet connectivity, including configuration documentation.
  • Monitor and take appropriate action to minimize unplanned outages for IT infrastructure.
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for improving and growing the network infrastructure and IT systems.
  • Conduct research and remain current with the latest technologies and solutions supporting procurement efforts.
  • Participate in the development of Requests for Proposals, as needed.
  • Responsible for asset management of IT hardware, software, and equipment.
  • Manage assigned staff, including recruitment, scheduling, employee development, and performance assessment.
  • Maintain security and privacy of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment.
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships and manage the purchase of hardware and software products.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and as appropriate.

  • Strong understanding of project management principles.
  • Understand CIRI's mission, vision, and strategic focus areas and incorporate knowledge into daily activities.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively supervise staff, including completing performance evaluations and career development.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team and to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare and submit comprehensive reports.
  • Superior organizational and follow-up skills and be detail oriented. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated-company employees, and outside business associates; exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others.
  • Ability to research, organize, and analyze technical information.
  • Works well under pressure and prioritizes workload while working on multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficient using Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and industry-standard computer software and databases.
  • High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential information.
  • Strong knowledge and proven track record of success in overseeing enterprise business systems and helpdesk operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Physical Abilities
  • Sufficient fine motor skills for use of computers, IT and office equipment with an ability to withstand repetitive keyboarding for extended periods of time.
  • Visual and communication abilities adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position and at or above shoulder height on occasion.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to maintain balance on uneven surfaces and ladders, and to negotiate stairs on an occasional basis.

Minimum Experience
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Five years of progressive experience in the information technology field.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • CompTIA A+ certification or industry equivalent.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
