Network Technician I

We are currently accepting applications for Network Technician I in our Fiber & Broadband department. This is a full-time, in-office position located at OEC headquarters in Norman, OK.

The Network Technician I is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Cooperative’s and OEC Fiber’s communication, local area and wide area networks, and AV infrastructure. He/she works proactively to resolve issues and provide optimum services to Cooperative personnel and OEC Fiber subscribers. This position works closely with the Technology Services and Fiber & Broadband teams and provides assistance to all Cooperative personnel.

The work schedule will occasionally include days/times outside of regular Cooperative business hours and may need to be available to respond to calls on short notice. Interested applicants should live, or be willing to relocate, within a reasonable distance of OEC's main office located in Norman, OK.

Responsibilities include:

• Assists with back office networking required for administrative support of the day-to-day operations of the network required to provide data, voice, and video service.
• Maintains day-to-day security of networks and servers including operating systems and applications.

• Assists with implementing network connectivity for LAN and WAN connections, including documentation of network connections.

• Provides third tier support to Subscriber Support team to enable OEC Fiber subscribers to access the network successfully.

• Helps perform maintenance of all network devices with all firmware and software updates and security patches and features.

• Assists in maintaining all data backups and disaster recovery including redundancy, virtualization, and backup procedures and rotations.

• Assists with the implementation, maintenance, and support of AV systems across the Cooperative, including configuration and documentation of signal flow.

Ideal candidates meet the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years’ experience OR Associate’s degree and a minimum of 4 years’ experience OR minimum of 6 years’ experience
  • Education should be in Information Technology or a related field with courses in Network Administration, Microsoft, Linux, Cisco, and AV technologies preferred.
  • Experience should be of a progressively increasing responsibility in a server or network role or related area.
  • Work experience may be substituted for the education requirement as well as additional education may be substituted for work experience.
• Basic knowledge of a broad range of networking technologies, hardware, and software, including but not limited to: hyperconverged infrastructure, Windows Server, Linux, LAN/ WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VoIP including Latency and Jitter management, QOS, routing protocols, server virtualization, VPN, VLAN, broadcast and multicast traffic, UPS backup technologies, GPS, and SSL
Basic knowledge and understanding of Cisco networking equipment, such as routers, switches, telephony, and security devices
• -IOS
• Basic knowledge and understanding of broadband and fiber technologies, including but not limited to: IPTV, GPON; fiber connections related to the plant and outside the plant in a field setting is preferred
• Basic knowledge and understanding of audio-visual technologies, including but not limited to: Daktronics direct view LED, Crestron NVX, and QSYS preferred
• Shows great attention to detail and thorough in completing tasks, able to make decisions and work independently, skill in monitoring/assessing performance of systems and making changes as appropriate, and communicates and collaborates well with co-workers
