Maintain an open access, fiber-optic network and improve the District's computer network in an efficient and economical manner that facilitates accomplishment of the District's mission and goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Configure and maintain network infrastructure.
- Assess and improve network performance and reliability.
- Resolve network problems and offer technical assistance to users.
- Assist in maintaining the District's servers and workstations.
- Perform user account moves, additions and changes.
- Implement and follow policies and procedures for LAN/WAN usage.
- Documentation of network infrastructure.
- Assist in maintaining telecommunication systems, including voice, data and video.
- Configure and install wireless access on the network.
- Perform scheduled maintenances.
- Participate in accident prevention program, including training and compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- This is a non-work-from-home position.
- Keep informed of new networking technology developments that would assist in accomplishing the District's goals and objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Must have the ability and desire to gain knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, router and switch configurations, and Windows, Apple, and Linux operating systems.
- Desire to learn how to design, implement and maintain voice over IP using Cisco technologies, including Unified Communications Manager and Unity Connection.
- Must be literate with command line interface.
- Ideal to have familiarity with the following Cisco Catalyst, Nexus & ME, PaloAlto and JunOS
- Willingness to learn layer 2 network design including Ethernet WAN technologies, MEF services, IEEE standards 802.1ad, QinQ, and 802.1q VLAN tagging experience.
- Basic understanding of how to design and implement network traffic aggregation models for efficient bandwidth utilization.
- Should have solid understanding of the open systems interconnection (OSI) reference model.
- Should have the ability to install and test copper and fiber cabling for network equipment.
- Should understand basic concepts of Virtual Private Networking, encryption, & digital certificates.
- Must have strong understanding of Microsoft networking methods.
- Must have the ability to understand, follow and communicate accurate, clear and concise written and verbal information and instructions.
- Must have the ability to perform accurate work in a timely manner.
- Must be dependable and demonstrate a high level of cooperation with coworkers.
- Must develop a working knowledge of safe work practices and accident prevention procedures, tools and equipment as related to job functions.
- Must have the ability to work without close supervision and to make decisions compatible with prior instructions.
- Must have the ability to take online training programs.
- Must have math, reading and writing skills required for the job functions.
- Should have basic understanding for low voltage wiring of electronic equipment.
- Should have experience with basic hardwire, optical and wireless networking principals.
- Ability to attain Cisco CCNA, CCISP, CCNP, CCDP or equivalent certifications within 24 months of hire.
- Must pass a District physical examination and be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must have a valid Washington State driver's license and a safe driving record. Employees moving from out of state must obtain a Washington State license in accordance with Washington State law.
- Must be available to work after hours and on call.
- This is not a work-from-home position.
- The job functions will be performed in both outdoor andindoor environments. There may be adverse weather conditions for outdoor work.

- Job functions on and around mechanized equipment will present the need for alertness and safety awareness.

- The work requires the ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds. Boxes and supplies are lifted on and off shelves up to a height of 6.5 feet.
