POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is in the Cyber Bureau, reporting to the Cybercrime Office section. This is a full-time position that will develop as a subject-matter expert on digital forensics and network incident response. This position will be responsible for conducting field-level digital forensics and for providing authoritative consulting on technology matters as related to criminal investigations conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and other law enforcement agencies as needed.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Researching, reviewing, analyzing and evaluating pertinent data related to cyber security issues, computer crime and other information technology (IT);
  • Communicating results and recommendations (as appropriate) to management, technology groups and effected entities based on the analysis of the data;
  • Conducting malware analysis relating to state of Florida data traffic;
  • Serving as a technical consultant (as needed) in criminal investigations/IT incidents involving computer crime;
  • Conducting and/or assisting in the digital forensic exam of computers, cell phones and other electronic devices on an as needed basis;
  • Managing the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant Pathfinder project; and
  • Providing guidance for the development, installation, maintenance and performance planning of computer network operating systems in the FDLE HQ Cyber Crime/High Tech Squad.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and four years of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming, three years of which must have been in systems programming; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the computer sciences or management information systems and three years of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming, two years of which must have been in systems programming; or
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and eight years of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming, three of which must have been in systems programming; or
  • Any combination of education or experience, as described above, for a total of eight years.
  • Completion of a 720-classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or community college in an area of data processing* can substitute for one year of the required education or experience.
  • Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing* can substitute for one year of the required education or experience.

Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of course work from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

  • Data entry excluded in data processing experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of network security and computer intrusion techniques;
  • Knowledge of current technologies, trends, and techniques;
  • Ability to understand and follow established policies, procedures, and industry best practices when conducting a mobile device or computer forensic examination;
  • Ability to perform technical troubleshooting;
  • Ability to utilize hardware and software and perform data analysis;
  • Ability to read technical publications and apply knowledge obtained from the publications;
  • Ability to testify in court regarding forensic techniques utilized, evidence management procedures, and data recovered;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and aptitude for working with computer systems, managing applications, computer networks and mobile device technologies.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communications skills; and
  • Must possess strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.

BASE SALARY:

  • $62,000.00- $85,000.00

Salary for the position will be commensurate with experience and training.

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. NOTES:

Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
