Network Specialist

General Description

Are you looking to join a great team? The City of Green Bay Police Department is seeking a Network Specialist to provide maintenance, planning, technical support and coordination for the City’s computer end-user devices and data and voice communications network.
Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Four 10 hour shifts per week) plus additional hours as needed. Flexible schedule and ability to work from home for a portion of the work week will be considered upon request.
Hiring Range: $32.03 - $34.85 per hour.
No residency requirement.

Examples of Duties

• Installs and sets up new personal computers, peripherals, personal devices, network equipment, and phone system equipment.
• Repairs and upgrades existing technology equipment.
• Responds to and resolves technical support calls, emails, and walk-in requests.
• Performs problem determination, coordination of service calls with vendors and transportation of equipment. Assists with cleaning and disposal of obsolete equipment.
• Installs and configures operating systems and application software.
• Completes documentation necessary for custom applications, software installs, hardware installs, etc.
• Develops and implements training material for city employees in software and equipment use (quick references, detailed manuals, and personal instruction).
• Performs routine/preventative maintenance on computer related systems.
• Administers telephone and voice mail systems. Provides backup to other IT staff. Performs rotating on-call duties.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

• Associate degree in Information Technology, Network Support, Computer Science or related field.
• One to three years technical support-related experience.
• Technical or cybersecurity certification desired.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.

A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Considerable knowledge of personal computers, printers, and standard office automation software. Working knowledge of network environment including routing, switching, and cellular data environments. Knowledge of IP telephony systems and IP camera systems.
• Ability to work well with department personnel and customers. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to identify and resolve PC and network support problems. Ability to identify and coordinate network support problems. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and other departments. Ability to work the required hours of the position.

May be required to demonstrate minimum competency by successfully passing approved tests.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the following activities:

• Lifting up to 75 pounds.
• Carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting and crawling.
• Ability to focus on projects for long periods of time.
• Ability to use fine hand tools.
