Responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance, advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting and day-to-day administration of highly complex communication servers and software in support of all County communications running over both traditional and Voice over IP networks. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
Responsibilities- Participates in the design, installation, and support of Fort Bend County's communications systems, utilizing traditional analog and digital networks as well as advanced Voice over IP/SIP networks running over the County's hardwired and wireless network infrastructure.
- Provides support for both the traditional hardware phones and equipment running over traditional communication networks as well as VOIP phones and virtual phone applications running over the Voice over IP networks.
- Recommends and implements communications systems policies and standards to ensure adherence to approved security and disaster recovery procedures.
- Work with outside vendor services to ensure that support contracts are adhered to and services are provided in an efficient and timely manner.
- Provide advanced diagnostics, proactively monitor and document all county communications networks and SIP configurations using advanced Cisco switches and servers, network operating systems and networking protocols.
- Research and recommend technology in support of long-range network capacity planning.
- On call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to respond to network related problems and outages.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. (High School/GED and five years of relevant professional experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree.)
- 5 years hands-on experience configuring and managing Cisco Voice and Collaboration systems.
- Advanced Network knowledge of Cisco technology, protocols and security systems in a converged network environment which encompasses local, wide area, wireless and VoIP applications.
- Desirable but not essential: 10 + years of Information Technology experience Cisco Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA).
- Direct experience designing, administering, securing and maintaining a converged enterprise network that includes wireless, VoIP and video technologies.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, vendors, other employees, and elected officials.
- Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) Collaboration Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCN) Collaboration preferred.
SALARY RANGE: Professional/Management Grade $38.14-$47.67 per hour/biweekly based on qualifications
