Our Eastern Territorial Headquarters in West Nyack, NY has an opening for a Network Engineer. The Network Engineer is tasked with designing, implementing, and maintaining the US Eastern Territory’s network infrastructure to support and enhance The Salvation Army's strategic goals, in accordance with ITIL best practices and CCNE standards. This role demands a high level of technical expertise to engineer robust network solutions, optimize performance, and ensure network security. The Network Engineer will leverage advanced analytical skills to solve complex network challenges, demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of networking technologies, and lead projects to upgrade and expand network capabilities.
This is an onsite position, requiring approximately 35 hours of work per week and may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
- Network Design and Architecture: Develop and implement scalable, high-performance network architectures that support organizational needs, incorporating advanced routing, switching, and security practices.
- Advanced Hardware Management: Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of networking hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, with an emphasis on Cisco and Meraki technologies.
- Hybrid Network Management: Design and manage complex hybrid network environments, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance of both cloud and on-premises network resources.
- Complex Troubleshooting and Resolution: Utilize expert-level analytical skills to identify, diagnose, and resolve network issues rapidly, minimizing downtime and impact on business operations.
- Network Security: Implement, manage, and monitor comprehensive network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption, to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor network performance using advanced tools like SolarWinds, Wireshark, and custom scripts to identify bottlenecks and optimize throughput and reliability.
- Automation and Scripting: Employ automation techniques and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) to streamline network operations, reduce manual tasks, and enhance efficiency.
- Advanced Communication Systems: Manage and optimize advanced communication systems, including VoIP / MS Teams Dialing, and video conferencing, ensuring highquality service and integration with network infrastructure.
- Professional Certification: Maintain CCNE certification and stay abreast of emerging network technologies and best practices through continuous learning and professional development.
- Strategic Planning and Project Management: Lead network-related projects, from planning through execution, aligning with strategic objectives and ensuring completion within scope, time, and budget.
- Documentation and Compliance: Produce detailed documentation for network architecture, configurations, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with ITIL standards and facilitating knowledge sharing within the IT department.
- Collaboration and Leadership: Collaborate effectively with IT teams, stakeholders, and vendors, providing expert guidance and leadership on network-related initiatives and decisions.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in Network Engineering, with a strong emphasis on designing, implementing, and troubleshooting network infrastructures in complex IT environments.
- A current CCNE certification, underscoring a deep understanding of network fundamentals and advanced technologies.
- Proven expertise with Cisco and Meraki solutions, supported by relevant certifications, to ensure capability in managing and optimizing these technologies within the network infrastructure.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft-related technologies, particularly in networking and systems administration; Microsoft certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) are preferred.
- Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions and strategies, with certifications or proven proficiency in MDM platforms (e.g., VMware Workspace ONE, Microsoft Intune) being highly desirable.
- SME-level knowledge of network security best practices and devices, augmented by relevant security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP) to enhance the network's defense mechanisms.
- Skills in automation and scripting to improve network management efficiency and accuracy, with experience in languages and tools like Python, PowerShell, or Ansible.
- Understanding of cloud networking principles and experience with hybrid environments, with cloud certifications (AWS, Azure) considered an added advantage.
- ITIL certification or demonstrated alignment with ITIL best practices for effective IT service management.
- Solid project management skills, with a preference for candidates holding PMP or similar certifications, to ensure successful planning, execution, and completion of network projects.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities, crucial for diagnosing complex network issues and effectively collaborating across teams.
