Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the District's mission. This position supports the curriculum by providing and maintaining the integrity, security, and infrastructure operations of local area networks and the wide area network in support of both instructional and administrative uses of computer related technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installs, repairs, and troubleshoots low voltage wiring and cable according to current standards.
- Completes layout and installation of patch panels, racks and all termination points of a network system.
- Configures network electronics, including wireless access points, switches, and other local and wide area network enabling devices.
- Documents network electronics configuration and cable drops and makes drawings of layout.
- Maintains network security devices, including firewalls, servers, and filters to ensure integrity of data flow into and out of the network.
- Coordinates with network and internet service providers to ensure all components of the network are operational.
- Troubleshoots and resolves problems between competing entities within the network domain.
- Monitors network performance and troubleshoots problem areas as needed.
- Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Reviews current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Participates in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to position assignments.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Education and/or Experience: Two years technical college, or equivalent, in Information Technology with emphasis in networking, or equivalent work experience. Five years of experience supporting a large local and wide area network development is preferred.
- Certificate or License Preferred: Network+, Security+, CCNA, NCP
- Language Skills: Must have ability to apply teaching and learning principles to support the understanding of learning and behavior, ability to relay technical information to others in understandable terms, and ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Must have ability to write professional correspondences and reports. Must have ability to effectively present and articulate information in one-to-one and group situations to students, parents, school personnel and community agencies.
- Mathematical Skills: Must have knowledge and understanding of general statistical procedures. Must have ability to collect and analyze assessment data, predict outcomes, formulate strategies for obtaining a desired result, and report/present findings in print and chart/graph.
- Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving processes and use deductive reasoning. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions. Must effectively organize, plan and prioritize work.
- Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and other job specified technologies.
- Customer Service Skills: Must be capable of interacting and communicating effectively with district employees, stakeholders, community members, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.
