Summary
VSolvit is seeking an onsite Oracle Database Administrator/Programmer to be a part of the IT support team for the National Analytical Radiation Environmental Laboratory (NAREL), which is a comprehensive environmental laboratory managed by EPA’s Office of Radiation and Indoor Air (ORIA). NAREL is located on the Gunter Annex of Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, and provides services to a wide range of clients, including other EPA offices and federal and state agencies. NAREL facilities incorporate state-of-the-art laboratory technology and equipment and include the latest health and safety techniques, as well as strict monitoring and control of laboratory emissions.
NAREL staff are highly trained professionals with backgrounds in health physics, radiochemistry, engineering, biology, mathematics, computer science and other disciplines. Fundamental to the NAREL mission is the commitment to developing and applying the most advanced methods for measuring environmental radioactivity and evaluating its risk to the public.
As with any position, additional expectations exist. Some of these are, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook, communicating regularly with assigned supervisor(s), and staying focused on the assigned tasks including company meetings, and completing other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Perform vulnerability scans of network enclaves.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and intelligence within the Cybersecurity field to ensure remediation against known threats.
- Assist with vulnerability remediation, as necessary.
- Conduct analysis results to identify high risk vulnerabilities impacting the network and ensure proper vulnerability management security postures.
- Perform and troubleshoot network and host vulnerability scanners.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable Computer Network Defense policies, regulations, and compliance documents.
- Document policies and procedures for the use of vulnerability assessment tools and methodologies.
- Supports LAN performance and LAN security.
- Ensures that the organization security procedures are properly implemented and enforced.
- Configures, supports, and troubleshoots all aspects of layer 1 (data cabling) and layer 2 (switching) of TCP/IP network.
- Manages network security and compliance by designing, implementing, and maintaining proper network segmentation utilizing firewall support, VLANs and software defined networking.
- Knowledgeable with current technological environments such as the Internet, Client/Server, Microsoft Operating System (OS) software, CISCO hardware, VLANS and systems implementation within a networked environment
Basic Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline/field
- Four (4) years of experience. Or five (5) years of experience in performing tasks in functional area
- Cisco Certification desired
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a laboratory environment with related equipment (testing water, soil, air) preferred
