Work involves managing the planning, design, development and day-to-day operations of the City of Miami's IT systems and solutions, including, but not limited to: computers, storage, operation and administration of data centers, data communication network (LAN/WAN/Wireless), enterprise backups, cloud services and solutions, virtualization, performance monitoring, alerting systems, new technologies, research, Information and Operating Systems, Identity & Access systems solution documentation, policies and procedures, systems and solutions related items acquisitions, and in general all proactive and reactive actions to maintain the City's healthy systems and network. An employee of this class works independently and supervises subordinate technical staff. This position reports to the higher level administrator or designee.
This work is not of a routine or ministerial nature and requires the exercise of independent judgment and data driven decision making supported by extensive research and strategic planning.
Plans, designs, evaluates, and recommend systems and network changes and enhancements.
Installs, configures, and supports network and system components, such as computer systems, storage systems, communications systems, software solutions, networking tools, networking devices, storage and backup units, virtual solutions, cloud services, wiring, racks, etc.
Maintains the integrity, performance and availability of the City's network and systems.
Produces and maintains systems and network documentation, such as technical diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOP), policies, settings, and troubleshooting actions.
Communicates network and systems changes, problems or special situations to managers and others who could be affected by the network behavior.
Coordinates and participates in the design, development, implementation, integration, troubleshooting and support of new and existing systems infrastructure ecosystems.
Coordinates and participates in the implementation, testing, validation and simulation of the Backup and Disaster Recovery Plan and Incident Response Plan (IRP).
Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinate technical staff. Holds regular staff meetings, assigns strategic directives, prepares status updates for projects, and ensures staff accomplishes objectives timely and within scope.
Assists in the development of the Division's budget and makes recommendations as to expenditures and cost saving measures. Manages operating budget for systems support, support contracts, enhancement, replacement, repairs, and optimization.
Interacts with vendors to get information about products and solutions.
Stays current with the industry best practices and advancement of the systems and upgrade paths and options to remain compliant.
Performs other related work as required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of the required experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must have a valid CCNA (Routing & Switching) certification and one of the below listed certifications at time of application and must maintain both active while employed in this classification. Additionally, an incumbent must obtain one (1) additional certification from the below listed professional certifications before the end of the probationary period and maintain it valid throughout employment in the classification.
