Nexus addresses the deep isolation within communities of color and Indigenous communities caused by personal, institutional, and structural racism by promoting an equity centered engagement model; supporting the development of leaders; democratizing wealth; and by reclaiming culture as an asset.Position Summary Nexus is seeking a Neighborhood Leadership Program Associate to support the growth, transformation, and advancement of NLP, a 7-month Leadership Program supporting grassroots leadership development and community engagement in the Twin Cities. This position will support curriculum development, coordination, implementation, evaluation, creation of communications materials for NLP, and engagement of NLP participants and alum for NLP. NLP Associate will be an active team member of NCEI, providing co-facilitation, community engagement and relationship-building in community. The Program Associate will work closely with the NCEI staff, external consultants, and partners. The NLP Associate will report to the NLP Program Manager.Position Functions & ResponsibilitiesProgram Coordination (40%)Plan programming and related logistics including coordinating speakers, trainers, selecting venues and media platforms, ordering food/items, organize resources, special events, and activities for NLP-related activities. Coordinate cohort recruitment processes including outreach, interviews, and selection processes for NLP. Assist with administrative tasks including preparing application process, note-taking, record-keeping, and organizing participant data in Form Assembly, Salesforce, SharePoint, and Google Drive. Engage in additional duties that may arise in NCEI programming including organizational committee participation and special projects.Program Implementation (25%)Support curriculum development, including co-developing agendas and materials. Co-facilitate program session workshops, events, meetings, and activities. Plan and coordinate meeting logistics for NLP programs, convening, feedback sessions, and other meetings Co-coordinate other program activities and processes such as participant outreach, recruitment, and selection, one-on-one meetings, interviews, gatherings, and other NLPAdministrative (25%)Support data collection and evaluation of NLP work and key stakeholders by coordinating, facilitating, and synthesizing listening sessions, surveys, one-on-ones, etc., Coordinate and assist with developing NCEI communications including producing tools, resources, blogs, website content, social media, program promotion and outreach. Enhance and support the creation of community engagement tools based on evaluation and community feedback to further advance the work of NLP and the field of community engagement. Support data collection and evaluation of NLP work and key stakeholders by coordinating, facilitating, and synthesizing listening sessions, surveys, one-on-ones, etc., Coordinate and assist with developing NLP communications including producing tools, resources, blogs, website content, program promo and outreach, and social media. Enhance and support the creation of community engagement tools based on evaluation and community feedback to further advance the work of NLP and the field of community engagement.Outreach and Engagement (10%)Participate in NCEI Advisory Committee and planning meetings to help shape direction, strategy, and implementation. Actively build connections and relationships with NLP alumni base, broader community members, partners, and other key stakeholders to enhance and grow the field of community engagement. Participate in the development and delivery of presentations at community gatherings, forums, conferences, workshops, etc.Desired Qualifications:
  • Really good at radical hospitality
  • 2+ years relevant experience in nonprofit and/or community work
  • Experience facilitating workshops, various activities, using popular education. Methods, with small and large groups of diverse people
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Understands and embraces efforts that promote racial, social, and economic equity and asset-based community change, including knowledge of the role of culture and history in community.
  • Strong ability to build relationships and establish and maintain trust readily with a diverse set of partners and team members.
  • Demonstrated understanding of or experience with authentic community engagement.
  • Function effectively as a leader and problem solver in order to meet the goals and objectives.
  • Collaborative nature and high capacity to work cross-culturally to achieve understanding and results.
  • Self-motivated and strong capacity to take initiative.
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and engage in designing high quality, interactive programs, and curriculum.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative evaluation and data collection methods and tools.
  • Experience working with Sales Force and Form Assembly
  • Experience working with online meeting/learning medium such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoToMeetings, Google Jam boards, Mural, Blackboard, etc.
  • Knowledge of marketing/communications including blogs, social media, etc.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Design skills are a plus, though not a requirement.
  • Adaptable to different workspace during COVID (Nexus will provide laptop and office supplies. Physical workspace can be provided if needed)

COVID-19 Information

Staff utilizing office space must follow Nexus COVID-19 response protocols to maintain a clean and healthy workspace during these times.
