We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Natural Resource/Environmental Policy Advisorwithin our Policy and External Affairs group based in Houston, TX
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Review and comment on federal, state and local regulatory/policy initiatives in the various resources areas and implementation of federal laws such as wildlife, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and/or Clean Water Act (WOTUS) and develop and communicate Oxy strategic plan on policy issues.
- Coordinate contractors preparing Environmental documents and coordinate subsequent NEPA-related interactions with Federal Agencies.
- Support Oxy's regulatory efforts by providing strategic guidance, research, assess and synthesize rules and policies, engage internal stakeholders, subject matter experts and outside consultants to develop Oxy's policy engagement strategy. Lead regulatory policy initiatives.
- Support Government Relations and Legal teams on legislative and other legal matters as needed.
- Represent Oxy at local, state, and national trade association meetings and events, serve on trade association committees as assigned by management.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with regulators and key internal and external stakeholders
- Attend and represent Oxy in relevant federal, state and local regulatory hearings and stakeholder meetings.
- Manage rule/policy implementation communication and turnover.
- Maintain awareness of Federal, State and Local regulatory policy developments as they relate to Oxy's operational areas.
- Present to a variety of audiences on behalf of Oxy.
- Assist in the development of Environmental Protection Measures and Guidelines to maintain regulatory compliance and advance sustainable development strategies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Science or Public Policy
- Minimum of 6 years of environment planning or environmental consulting related experience, demonstrated knowledge of biological/ ecological sciences, demonstrated knowledge/experience of Oil and Gas facilities and operational practices. with increasing responsibilities.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies and knowledge of federal, state and local policy that governs oil and gas operations.
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and clearly communicate complex regulatory and/or policy issues.
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office applications and internet applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable with Public Speaking
- Flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic, multi-task, customer service environment
- Good organization and time management skills
- Strong ethics, service attitude, team player
- Travel 20-25%
