This MWL (Medium Wheel Loader) Product Safety & Regulation Worldwide Lead (internally known as a Design Engineering Specialist) position serves as an expert and project leader within the product group to drive Product Safety & compliance by working directly with associated MWL product organizations and the Enterprise Product Safety and compliance team. The incumbent will lead and guide the product group teams to meet safety and non-emissions regulatory compliance requirements for Caterpillar’s MWL products. 

What You Will Do:

  • The incumbent will guide and coordinate the CPPD (Concurrent Product and Process Development) team in NPI (New Product Introduction), CPI (Continuous Product Improvement), and current product maintenance to meet regulatory requirements while providing superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.
  • Interface with the Enterprise Regulatory and Compliance team to cascade and communicate the product regulatory changes and requirements to Paving CPPD teams.
  • Develop work scope and activities to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to CPPD teams, including product design, manufacturing, supply chain, product support, marketing, etc.
  • Lead or facilitate regulation-specific projects (i.e., roading certification, task-based risk assessment, etc.) to ensure the required work is completed on time and of high quality.
  • Responsible for creating compliance documents, managing the documents repository, and providing required documents to various business partners, including manufacturing, marketing, and dealership.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to CPPD and the management in making key decisions related to Product Safety & compliance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Product Safety & Regulations processes, systems, and training. 

What You Will Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Degree requirement: bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
  • Effective Communication: Must be able to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the workgroup, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers.  Willing and able to collaborate with international teams in various time zones.
  • Project Management: Experience leading regulatory projects with a focus on ensuring timely completion and high-quality outcomes. Must have demonstrated ability to guide cross-functional teams to meet regulatory standards while maintaining product excellence in areas such as performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Must be able to assesses and validates decision options and points and predicts their potential impact. Advises others in analyzing and synthesizing relevant data and assessing alternatives.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Earthmoving machine or machine system design or development experience with excellent analytical skills and an extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications. 

Top Candidates Will Also Bring (Desired Qualifications):

  • Experience in MWL development and manufacturing
  • Safety and non-emissions experience in product design or development
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to navigate sensitive effectively engaging professionals at all levels.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely across all levels of the organization, facilitating seamless collaboration and alignment.

Additional Information:

  • Location: Peoria, IL or Aurora, IL
  • Domestic relocation will be provided to Peoria, IL only for those who qualify.
  • Up to 15% travel is expected.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • ISE assignments are not available for this role.
