Security Manager
General Purpose Statement
The Security Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the museum's visitors, staff, and artwork. You will be managing a team of security officers, occasional contracted security, and coordinating with other departments to ensure the smooth operation of security procedures.
Reporting Relationships
This position reports to the Director of Operations. The position oversees all Museum Security Officers and contract security as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage security policies and procedures to protect the museum's assets, including the artwork, staff, and visitors.
- Hire, train, and manage a team of security officers, providing direction, guidance, and support as needed.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with local law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and other relevant organizations to enhance the museum's security protocols.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that all security-related activities are coordinated and aligned with the museum's overall mission and objectives.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities to the museum's security and implement appropriate measures to address them.
- Develop and oversee emergency response plans and procedures for incidents such as fire, theft, or other emergencies.
- Monitor and maintain security equipment, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarms, ensuring that they are operational and up to date.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments of security measures to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Prepare and deliver security training and awareness programs to staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders to ensure they are aware of security risks and protocols.
- Provide immediate response to alarms and other emergency situations; resolve complaints and immediately address any issues that arise regarding the security of the premises, objects, visitors, and employees.
- Maintain control of sensitive keys, key access cards, and visitor credentials.
- Collaborate with the Development department to coordinate security for all events, including major donor events, and auction events that may require contracted armed security services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of security protocols, procedures, and best practices, as well as experience implementing and managing them.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with security technology, including surveillance systems, access control systems, and alarms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Service oriented and adaptable to change.
Required Qualifications
- College, technical school, or training in security management, security systems, and/or security operations.
- At least 3 years of experience in security or police work, which included using computerized security systems to secure fixed assets.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Salary
The salary for this position is between $65,000 to $70,000.
Hours and Work Schedules
This is a salaried position working varied hours to ensure proper coverage for the museum and may require working evenings and weekends to accommodate exhibition schedules and deadlines. The work is primarily indoors but will also require outdoor exposure while assisting with off-site exhibitions. Required to stand or sit for long periods of time.
