Mobile Support Specialist

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:        Mobile Support Specialist

Location:        Varies

Supervisor:    Program Support Manager

Hours:            Friday-Tuesday 4pm-12am

Wage:             $21.42/hr. +  $0.25/hr Swing Shift Differential

                        Eligible for Language Differential

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee shelter facility in a manner that is consistent with Transition Projects mission, values, policies and procedures. Actively participate in shelter processes and work as part of a team to provide services to clients. This is a represented full-time position.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Be available and flexible to work across Residential Shelter Programs, Low Barrier Shelter Programs, the Resource Center, Severe Weather Shelter, and other programs as directed.
  2. Understand that the location you are working at will change daily based on programmatic needs.
  3. Supervise shelter activities to ensure safety of residents.
  4. Assure cleanliness, sanitation, and upkeep of facility, performing minor maintenance and cleanup duties as necessary or requested.
  5. Maintain confidentiality of residents, staff and agency.
  6. Provide advocacy and information and referral services to residents.
  7. Facilitate problem solving and provide crisis intervention services to residents as necessary.
  8. Perform urinalysis and breathalyzer testing of residents as needed.
  9. Coordinate with agency staff to ensure consistent delivery of services.
  10. Attend agency and program staff meetings.
  11. Supervise resident chore assignments and their completion.
  12. Responsible for knowing and following policies and procedures with regard to building safety.
  13. Responsible for knowing and following procedures in emergency situations.
  14. Responsible to maintain accurate logs, shift reports, and client records, both manually and using web based program.
  15. Supervise volunteers in assisting shelter staff and residents.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Each Transition Projects employee must:

  1. Represent the organization professionally at all times.
  2. Serve as a positive role model to participants.
  3. Maintain positive relations with program participants, volunteers, co-workers, staff from other agencies, agency funders, and the general public.
  4. Acquire First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire and be retested biannually thereafter throughout employment.
  5. Complete Blood borne Pathogens and Narcan Training within 30 days of hire and be retested annually thereafter throughout employment.
  6. Food Handlers card required within 30 days of hire.
  7. Demonstrate effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively and asking questions when clarification is needed.
  8. Plan and organize work effectively and ensure its completion.
  9. Exercise necessary cost control measures.
  10. Demonstrate reliability by being present for work as scheduled, arriving and leaving on time and taking breaks in expected time frames.
  11. Interact effectively with persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
  12. Embrace teamwork and promote a team-oriented environment.
  13. Demonstrate initiative.
  14. Make decisions that reflect consistency with Transition Projects philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  15. Participate in ongoing development and improvement of all program processes and relationships.
  16. Attend agency and program staff meetings.

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee, with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  1. Hearing and vision adequate for interaction with clients, interaction with staff and interaction with the general public.
  2. Hearing adequate for telephone work. Vision adequate for close work.
  3. Hand and finger dexterity adequate to operate standard office equipment.
  4. Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, reach, stoop, pull, sit, climb stairs, and squat.
  5. Ability to perform CPR for fifteen minutes continuously.
  6. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The right individual for this position has a passion for helping others and a desire to work in an organization that serves people who are experiencing poverty and homelessness.

  1. Associates Degree or higher in a related field, OR 1 year work experience in social services AND demonstrated understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, chemical dependency, domestic violence and sexual assault.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Ability to appropriately assess a situation and take corrective action as necessary.
  3. Knowledge of services available to low-income and homeless persons in Multnomah County through Transition Projects and other agencies or the demonstrated ability to obtain such knowledge.
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide crisis intervention and to follow procedure in crisis situations.
  5. Written and verbal communication skills. Good computer skills. Ability to use web-based data collection program.
  6. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
