Who are we hiring?
The Productions Department manages all aspects of the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes, from inception and workshopping to casting and operations. The Millinery Associate role is key to organizing and overseeing the Millinery process and inventory from initial seasonal cleanings and maintenance to extensive refurbishment and rebuild of pieces as needed. The Millinery Associate will have considerable experience in previous millinery shops, construction of unique headpieces, and overseeing seasonal budgets. Must be highly detailed and skilled at prioritizing and shifting focus in a high-pressure, collaborative environment.
What will you do?
- Review and assess the millinery pieces from the previous Christmas Spectacular season and produce a plan and budget for refurbishment and replacement for the next season, in combination with the Costume Supervisor.
- Lead cleaning and maintenance for 900+ hats and headpieces.
- Propose a comprehensive plan and budget to Production Department for the season.
- Refurbish the Hats/ Headpieces that are being maintained in house.
- Manage outside vendors that are chosen to assist in the rebuild and refurbishment of items, communicate timelines and delivery dates in accordance with fitting schedules.
- Work with Costume Supervisor to order any necessary materials, supplies, and fabrics.
- Schedule and conduct all fittings for Rockettes and Ensemble cast members.
- Review Casting to determine a plan for addressing all hat and headpiece sizing.
- Take and organize notes from fittings, doing alterations or talking with outside vendor how best to execute.
- Coordinate deliveries with outside vendors and wardrobe department
- Attend key technical rehearsal days where head pieces are being incorporated for the first time and oversee all necessary alterations.
- Attend all Dress Rehearsals
- Request and lead additional fittings/ alterations as needed.
- Assist in documentation of inventories.
- Support with publicity requests regarding millinery during post season and off-season (January-September)
What do you need to succeed?
- 8+ years of experience in theater, TV or film Wardrobe/Millinery departments
- Understanding of fitting hats on dancers who perform high intensity choreography
- Knowledge of various hand and machine stitching techniques and experience in machinery used in craft work.
- Demonstrated ability to handle basic materials used in costume crafts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with peers, staff, senior management, vendors, cast, crew and contractors.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 software, including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills.
- Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
Special Requirements:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, have split days off, work weekends and holidays in a 24 X 7 environment.
- General physical requirements such as lifting 25 lbs., standing or sitting for long periods, walking long distances and stairs, bending and constant motion is often required.
