Migrant Summer School Nurse - Adams County

*The IU5 Migrant Education Program is looking for a nurse for this year's Adams CountySummer School of Excellence. The Summer School will take place Monday - Thursday for 4 weeks.

Position Summary:

The Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5's Migrant Education Program is seeking an experienced nurse for a campus-based Summer School program. The primary responsibility will be to provide health services to students when they are at Summer School, such as treating injuries and mild to acute sicknesses, or supporting students with chronic illnesses. The nurse will also help with preventive care by educating students on how to avoid communicable diseases and having proper hygiene. The ideal candidate for this position must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate with children, their parents or guardians, and teachers.

Required Qualifications:

• State licensed practical nurse (LPN) or greater
• Reliable transportation to and from the summer campus location(s)

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience as a School Nurse
• Experience working with migratory students and/or English Language Learners

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness
• Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
• Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
• Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases)
• Ensure compliance with national and local health laws
• Other duties as assigned

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Knowledge of state and federal laws that impact the organization

Work Environment:

This job operates in various locations. Incumbent must have the ability to monitor students' health. Candidates are required to have reliable transportation to arrive on time to the Summer School location.
