Middle School Day Camp Coordinator

Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY: 


The Middle School Day Camp Coordinator ensures programs run smoothly and serves as a model program facilitator. 


Our Middle School camp offers staff a unique opportunity to mentor youth as they develop leadership and teamwork skills while working on a variety of projects designed to allow them to make discoveries about themselves, their peers and the world. Each session offers a different theme for participants to explore. From creating a community art installation, to building a boat, to planning their own travel expedition, this position is  an incredible chance for staff to both provide a safe, inclusive and meaningful experience to campers while experiencing new things for themselves! 


BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • You will lead, coach, and develop counselors, and provide ongoing informal feedback as well as formal performance evaluations.
  • You will ensure that counselors have the logistical support necessary to do their jobs effectively. This includes, but is not limited to, providing camp schedules, assisting counselors in creating effective routines, providing necessary supplies, setting expectations and clearly communicating expectations for participant and staff behavior, and communicating organizational policies and procedures.
  • You will educate counselors regarding the unique needs of campers and ensure that these needs are met during the camp session. This includes, but is not limited to, activity and dietary restrictions, medical conditions, medications, and allergies that could present challenges during the session.
  • You will actively lead and participate in programs. 
  • Complete participation notes and attendance for campers.
  • As a member of the Day Camp Leadership Team, you will participate in regular meetings to provide updates and strategize to help our camp community be the best it can be. 
  • May be expected to collaborate with and provide coaching to Leader in Training participant interns


 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS


  • Our summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.
  • Bi-weekly pay is $850 per week
  • A week of professional development with all seasonal staff focused on youth development
  • A week of professional development with all seasonal Lead Team members focused on staff coaching and support

  • Enthusiasm about new experiences and ability to self-manage to bring a consistent level of energy all summer long.

 

REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS


  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be available Monday-Friday, June 10- August 1. 
  • Ability to work until 6:30pm on August 1st for our End of Summer Celebration.  
  • Ability to work 7:45 am - 4:15pm.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification. (PEAK can support in attaining.)
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required, some college experience is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, and clean driving record required. Must pass PEAK van driver training. 
  • Lifeguard certification desired.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) desired but not required


REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS


  • The Middle SchoolCamp Coordinator reports to the Youth Programs Manager and supervises the Middle School Day Camp Counselor. 
  • The Middle SchoolCamp Coordinator may support and guide high school participant interns while they are assisting with programming. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Day Camp programming is in constant motion. Campers and staff are interacting and moving around, doing various vigorous activities throughout the day, indoor and outdoor. You may spend a large portion of the day outdoors and may remain standing or on your feet for long periods of time.
  • Must be comfortable working in an urban park as a significant portion of your time will be spent at PEAK’s program center in Tiefenthaler Park 
  • The Middle School Coordinator will be responsible for driving a large 15-passenger van
