Job description

Position Summary: The Power Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a micro-grid Power Plant using Jenbacher and Caterpillar generators. This role involves overseeing the generation of electricity, ensuring it meets the demands of the grid or specific area it services. The operator will be required to maintain a high level of safety, conduct routine maintenance, and troubleshoot any issues that arise. They will also play a crucial role in environmental monitoring, ensuring that the plant’s operations comply with all relevant environmental standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Start and stop Jenbacher and Caterpillar generators, monitor performance, and adjust controls for optimal production.
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance, diagnose and resolve operational issues, and ensure the longevity and efficiency of generators.
  • Monitor operational parameters like voltage, current, frequency, and temperature, and adjust controls to maintain optimal performance.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and practices, use protective gear, and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Maintain detailed records of operations, maintenance, fuel consumption, and other relevant operational data.
  • Coordinate with the larger grid operations or manage the micro-grid to ensure consistent power supply.
  • Work with engineers and technicians on projects to enhance plant efficiency and capacity.
  • Ensure operations meet environmental regulations and emissions standards.

Other Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5+ years of related experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry, service rental. Electrically or mechanically focused.
  • High School diploma, skilled labor certificate, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in operating and maintaining Jenbacher and Caterpillar generators is highly desirable. Experience in a Power Plant or similar industrial setting is also beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of generator mechanics, electrical systems, and control systems.
  • Knowledge of and experience in adhering to safety regulations specific to Power Plants.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and practices relevant to Power Plant operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for record-keeping and team collaboration.
  • Willingness to stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Willingness to work in exposure to extreme temperatures, wind, and precipitation, in addition to working at heights.
  • Ability to stoop, sit, stand, or be on their feet for an extended period of time.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds up to 10 times per shift.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently
