Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented problem-solver to serve as the Microfabrication Section Manager. Leidos has offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos Defense Systems provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

As an integral member of the Advanced Materials Group, the successful candidate will serve as the Microfabrication Section Manager with responsibility for leading and growing the Microfabrication capabilities within the Advanced Materials Group. This position will balance multiple activities including but not limited to:

- Providing technical leadership in the areas of Microfabrication and Experimentation

- Participating in identification and hiring of new staff

- Providing support and mentorship to junior staff in both technical and professional areas

- Perform program management of tasks and/or projects

- Engage in business development activities including the writing of proposals and exercising the Leidos program execution system

A qualified candidate will possess the following:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or one of the Physical Sciences with 8+ years of applicable experience

- Experience executing applied research tasks, including but not limited to Microfabrication processes and equipment, instrumentation development/qualification, and new technology development

- Experience in writing proposals to secure funding for research projects

- Experience training new staff to successfully execute experimentation and testing activities

- Direct experience leading diverse multi-disciplinary teams to execute technical objectives

- Willingness to work on multiple types of programs ranging from basic/applied research to more mature manufacturing or technical services activities including those with defense and weapon system applications

U.S. Citizenship and the ability to receive and maintain a Top Secret DoD security clearance

Preference will be shown to candidates that have experience and/or capability in the following areas:

- Master’s Degree in Engineering or one of the Physical Sciences with 6+ years of applicable experience, or PhD with 5+ years of applicable experience

- Direct experience in developing microfabrication processes and working with OEM equipment suppliers to maintain and improve existing equipment

- Multidisciplinary technical background with demonstrated experience in areas unrelated to educational background

- Experience leading research and development activities related to materials applications, especially in the areas of Green technologies  or materials synthesis technologies

- Highly organized with the ability to translate high-level research goals into detailed program plans, schedules and staff direction

- Ability to stay focused and succeed in high-stress, dynamic, and fast paced environments

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

- Experience with customer engagement and proposal efforts to win new business

- Program management experience (budgets, schedules, staff planning, etc.) with research and development programs

- Ability and desire to mentor younger staff and grow the organization

- Ability to rapidly and effectively shift between multiple technical and/or programmatic activities

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
