Job Title: Microbiologist
Location: Boca Raton FL USA 33166
Duration: 12+ Months
Shift Time: 7:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday. (Be flexible to cover weekend/holiday shifts as needed.
Summary:
- This position supports the Health Science Quality Control Department mission of providing specialized laboratory services to ensure that products are safe, satisfy all applicable regulatory requirements and meet the quality expectations of our customers and consumers.
- Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Microbiologist fulfills a key role within the NHS by performing routine laboratory procedures with a minimum of supervision to provide quality analytical results in a timely fashion.
Job Duties:
- Performs routine testing of samples according to established compendial and in-house procedures.
- Performs individual responsibilities under the supervision of laboratory management and senior co-workers.
- Interpret, analyze, and report analytical data.
- Prepares solutions, suspensions, and media to perform essential laboratory procedures.
- Performs administrative duties using established systems to gather information needed to prepare for test procedures and for organizing results when reporting to customers.
- Makes and records observations, performs calculations, and assists in preparing data for evaluation.
- Keeps supervisor informed of work status.
- Prioritizes workload and meets scheduled timelines.
- Available to work weekends and accommodate occasional schedule changes as needed to meet product release priorities.
- Communicates/maintains equipment and supply needs required to avoid delays in testing.
- Reports results of assignments and maintains record keeping in compliance with approved regulatory policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements.
- Follows and complies with all appropriate operations and testing procedures, GMPs and safety and health requirements as applicable.
- Demonstrates good housekeeping practices to minimize human error, potential contamination, and safety risks. Understands how to manage bio-hazardous materials and waste using proper and safe techniques.
- Escalates to management results of any unexpected or out of specification results so that an appropriate investigation can be initiated and documented.
- As required, participates (under general supervision) in conducting investigational studies of atypical results.
- Attending internal and external training programs to develop professionally.
- Maintain awareness of current publications relating to work area and conduct literature searches as required.
- Performs basic maintenance and troubleshooting on the instrumentation.
- Troubleshooting can include procedures in the lab.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or Equivalent Experience in lieu of degree
- Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or closely related discipline
Work Experience:
- 1-3 Years Experience in Microbiology

Physical Demands:
- Standing for extended periods, lifting equipment & supplies (30 lbs.).
- Dexterity required to manage samples with repetitive motion.
- Vision abilities and demands related to detailed and microscope work.
- Some weekend and holiday work are required.
- Work environment may be exposed to powders, chemicals, and allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, milk, dairy, eggs, wheat, gluten, soy, fish, and shellfish).
