Laboratory Microbiologist/Chemist
Full-time laboratory microbiologist sought for a small, well-respected, Orlando-based environmental engineering and research firm. Applicants must be dependable, intelligent, and professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills. General duties include conducting microbiological analyses and counts for regulated species such as fecal coliform, E. Coli, enterococcus, fecal strep, chlorophyll-a, BOD, COD, and other tests, as needed in samples consisting of surface water, runoff, and groundwater sources. Also provide assistance with on-going research projects. Training will be provided for specific testing, but applicant must be familiar with standard laboratory techniques and equipment such as balances, ovens, autoclaves, serial dilutions, water baths, thermometers, and aseptic technique. Specific duties and requirements include:
· Minimum B.S. Degree in microbiology, biological sciences, chemistry, or related field
· Must demonstrate college coursework and practical lab experience in microbiology, chemistry, or closely related field
· Applicants must have good computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
· Participate in routine proficiency testing and bi-annual laboratory audits
· Meticulous attention to detail and data recording skills
· Ability to meet deadlines; excellent time management - able to multi-task efficiently, work under pressure, and adapt to changes in direction
· Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
· Assist with other lab technicians as needed; perform other duties as assigned
