Description
Internally known as a Tradesworker, this is a field position within the Meter Services Department. The incumbent will install and maintain automated water metering and recording devices at the level of accuracy specified by Lee County standards and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains meter boxes
- Removes, replaces and installs various water meter boxes, including automated water meters.
- Troubleshoots automated water meters and automated water meter network infrastructure.
- Installs and repairs automated water meter components.
- Locates and visually inspects meters and visible plumbing where applicable to ensure proper installation and functioning.
- Connects, disconnects, removes, installs and performs minor repairs to meters, such as leaks.
- Maintains effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels within County.
- Ensures smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts.
- Provides current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.
Education, Experience, Licensing
- Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and six months of work experience in public utilities, such as water, sewer, natural gas, irrigation, plumbing, electrical or telecommunication installation or closely related experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record is required.
Supplemental Information
- Workdays and hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Knowledge of water meters, water meter components and equipment, automated water meter components and infrastructure.
- Ability to navigate within Windows PC environment. Create, open, and close files or applications using a mouse.
- Knowledge of the Lee County Service areas and streets are preferred.
- This position will be required to work in extreme heat and adverse outdoor weather conditions.
